The Personal Touch In More Ways Than One

veteran holding hands with womanDid you know? Helping educate and assist individuals outside of our normal practice offerings is another way we serve our community at large. Doctor Norkin, for instance, partners with the charitable organization Wounded Veterans Relief Fund which provides care for underserved veterans.

Recently, Dr. Norkin helped a veteran who came in with a severely damaged smile. Nearly all the patient’s teeth were broken near the gum line, forcing the patient to rarely smile and only consume soft foods—not really a nutritional plus. The vet had been told by other dentists that he lacked sufficient jawbone in order to obtain dental implants and that he would have to rely on removable dentures.

Dr. Norkin disagreed. With state-of-the-art assistance utilizing our Yomi robotic-guided implant surgery, Dr. Norkin was able to correct years of neglect, fear and infection and maximize the patient’s remaining bone tissue. Dr. Norkin replaced the patient’s failing teeth with dental implants, providing immediate temporary teeth that would not come out, all in just one visit. The patient was overjoyed and left our office with temporary teeth, a new smile and newfound confidence.

What is Haptic Guidance?

Haptic guidance is the special tactile ability that our Yomi robotic system offers to guide our dental implant surgeons. A special “feel” from the robotic arm provides signals to restrict movement even if we’re off by a millimeter, which ensures perfect implant placement positioning.

We proudly introduced Yomi in our office back in 2003 as this country’s first use of computer-assisted surgical navigation for dental implant surgery. Our dental implant surgeons still maintain full control and can manually change the treatment plan if needed for some reason. Yomi is a true advantage since it delivers real-time multi-sensory guidance with 3-D technology which affords our dental implant surgeons extraordinary real-time precision. As a result of the robotic assistance and our skilled specialists, patient recovery is easier and often shorter, with overall less discomfort as well.
