Timeline of Innovations and Advances in Dental Excellence at SFCPID

  • Introduced “Guided Tissue Regeneration” for treatment of periodontal bone loss

  • Introduced  “Guided Bone Regeneration” for regeneration of areas of bone atrophy to enable dental implant placement

  • Introduced digital radiology for dental x-rays to reduce radiation exposure and decrease time to take dental radiographs

  • First immediately loaded dental implant case (later to be named TeethToday® and now frequently called All-on-4®)

  • First publication on immediate loading of dental implants from our office, published in International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, which, at the time, was the largest study with the highest success rate to date

  • “TeethToday®” copyrighted to describe the immediate restoration of dental implants, allowing patients to return to normal esthetics and function immediately after dental
    implant placement

  • TeethToday® is featured on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover” as the first implant placement and immediate temporary, fixed-bridge case performed on primetime national television

  • First use of computer-guided surgical navigation system in the USA for precision dental implant surgery using Israeli technology

  • Implemented digital periodontal examination and probing to simplify and improve recording periodontal conditions

  • Implemented periodontal endoscope (Periscope) and created “REP” (Regenerative Endoscopic Procedure) for minimally invasive regenerative treatment for periodontitis

  • Implemented one of the first in-office CBCT (3D cone beam scanners) for imaging patients, improving access for precise diagnosis and reducing radiation exposure for patients

  • Created and introduced DentalImplan™ patient education software to illustrate dental problems and possible solutions to patients and clarify patient consultations

  • Implemented digital intra-oral scanner to eliminate need for many dental impressions

Began collaboration and clinical advisory role with Neocis, surgical robotic system for dental implant placement

  • Created TeethToday Centers, a group of 14 specialists around the USA that focused on immediate tooth replacement using dental implants

  • Implemented laser-assisted periodontal treatment (LANAP®) to complement other treatment methods

  • First robotic dental implant surgery performed worldwide as part of Neocis YOMI FDA clinical trial and validation

  • Implemented “Piezocision®” minimally invasive method of surgically facilitated orthodontics to reduce orthodontic treatment time and improve results for adults

  • Implemented first robotic dental implant surgical unit in use worldwide following FDA approval, with routine use

  • First office in Florida to implement “full digital workflow” using intraoral scanning technology for full-arch immediate loading temporary and final restorations using Nexus IOS technology.

This innovative method uses an intraoral scanner to design and fabricate immediate, provisional and then final zirconia restorations. It’s a big improvement on previous methods and techniques thanks to greater accuracy, efficiency and quality of the restorations. SFCPID was one of the first 25 offices in the U.S. to receive the patented technology and is helping to improve methods for immediate loading (TeethToday®) of dental implants. Patient benefits include more accurate restorations, with better esthetics and fewer appointments.

  • One of the first specialty offices in the U.S. to implement AI technology for even greater consistent and accurate diagnoses with digital x-rays. The AI technology affords us more proactive treatment, measurement consistency, disease progression monitoring and easier patient education.
