We proudly welcomed our sixth dental specialist, Dr. Ovadia Chocron, to South Florida Center for Periodontics & Implant Dentistry in July 2024.
Like our other dental professionals, Dr. Chocron offers his patients today’s top periodontal procedures including gum-and bone-grafting techniques, regenerative treatments to combat periodontal disease and robotic dental implant surgery.
Originally from Montreal, Dr. Chocron attended McGill University, which is considered the best dental school in Canada. He completed a General Practice Residency in Brooklyn, NY after dental school where he treated medically compromised patients in an ER and OR setting.
After that, he practiced in a multi-specialty practice in Montreal, where he worked alongside a periodontist, an experience that helped propel the then general dentist to return to school to gain the education required and specialize in the field of periodontics. He especially liked the way the dental specialty field employed both surgical and holistic approaches as needed to help restore gum and tooth health.
“We work to save natural teeth by assessing and diagnosing each situation and then using our abilities, surgical solutions, today’s top technology and biologics or other regenerative techniques (like LANAP® laser treatment) to help repopulate cells and tissue lost by disease,” he says. “Healing natural teeth and focusing on how your mouth, the ‘gateway to the body,’ relates to the rest of your health is very important. And, of course, if there is no way of saving the tooth, we can replace them with dental implants to provide long-term stability, restore chewing ability and enhance smiles.”
One of Dr. Chocron’s favorite topics is bone regeneration. In fact, he recently lectured at the Florida Association of Periodontists on this topic (“Guided Bone Regeneration: From Simple to Complex”) in Orlando, FL.
“Lecturing to other dentists about topics like bone regeneration, soft tissue procedures, crown lengthening, microbiology and periodontal disease is really rewarding. Public speaking is enjoyable for me, so when I can transfer knowledge to a group and feel that ‘aha’ moment from the audience, it’s a real plus.”
French-speaking patients may find an extra level of comfort in visiting Dr. Chocron since he’s fully bilingual. His parents and six siblings are all bilingual, although he says his grandparents still only speak French to the family.
In his spare time, he loves having sunshine 365 days a year which allows him to play year-round tennis, one of his hobbies.
“Florida was a shock in the beginning – but in a great way. I truly fell in love with the day-to-day lifestyle here and tell my friends back in Montreal that I’d take the Florida summers any day over the Montreal winters!”
He also plays guitar. “My father is a professional guitarist, and I picked it up in my late teens. Music was always a big part of our family time together and it still is an important part of my life.”
If you’re looking for an energetic, capable and enthusiastic periodontal practitioner to help you in the diagnosis or treatment of gum disease or offer solutions to replace severely failing or missing teeth, schedule an appointment with Dr. Chocron today!
