Our Doctors Are Also Educators and Authors

In May, Dr. De Souza played a key role at the “intense and productive” 7th ITI (International Team for Implantology) Consensus Conference held in Portugal. It was an opportunity for international  academics, clinicians and thought leaders to summarize and collate current knowledge about various topics in implant dentistry.

Headshot of Dr De SouzaDr. De Souza’s group, led by Doctors Martin Schimmel and Mauricio Araujo, authored three papers regarding patient benefits in implant therapy. Dr. De Souza is the main author of “The Effect of Implant Therapy in the Preservation of Orofacial Tissues.” The article highlights the remarkable benefits of implant rehabilitation on preserving the remaining alveolar bone (which supports our natural teeth or implants) as compared to a conventional prosthesis or no treatment.

All of our doctors are Fellows of the ITI, which is the highest recognition category among 20,000 global participants in the ITI organization, the world’s largest dental implant community. Members from more than 100 countries meet to foster learning, network and discuss and exchange ideas and knowledge.

More in the News

Additionally, in a recent article published in the International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry, Dr. De Souza and five other international colleagues discuss implant esthetic complications. In “Implant Esthetic Complications: Anatomical, Prosthetic and Patient-Centered Considerations for Treatment,” they explain how there’s no room for error in implant placement in the esthetic zone, also known as the smile zone, the front part of your smile that shows when you smile.

Dr. Ganeles co-authored “7 Keys for Treatment of Periodontal Intrabony Defects” which recently appeared in Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry. Intrabony defects are alterations in bone support for teeth as a result of periodontal infections. These periodontal defects ultimately cause tooth loss. The “7 Keys” checklist is intended as a guide for predictable treatment planning and regenerative (corrective) periodontal procedures for long-term success to maintain or restore dental health.

Congratulations doctors De Souza and Ganeles! Be sure to ask the doctors about their latest educational or authorship adventures during your visit to South Florida Center for Periodontics & Implant Dentistry. We love to share knowledge!
