Behind the Scenes: We’re Also Educators!

Our newest dental specialist, Dr. André Barbisan De Souza, will speak in June 2023 at the International Team for Implantology (ITI) Congress North America to be held nearby in Miami. The meeting is one of this country’s most prestigious in-person implant dentistry events. Dr. De Souza, a leading figure in the industry, will present “The role of digital implant planning and guided surgery on simultaneous or staged horizontal bone augmentation procedures.” He’ll help colleagues discover best practice means of applying the concept of digital implant planning to their decision-making process.

Precise implant placement depends on healthy jawbone tissue. In some instances, there is bone atrophy from diseased or missing teeth. This deficit then requires bone reconstruction, what we call guided bone regeneration (GBR). The GBR restorative process was introduced at this office in 1992 and has facilitated dental implant placement for decades!

The ITI is a global network of more than 20,000 implant dentistry professionals from more than 100 countries. The group establishes uniform standards, offers continuing education, brings colleagues together for networking, and provides exclusive access to a broad pool of knowledge via publications, online platforms and symposiums such as the planned June event.

At South Florida Center for Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, our doctors often lecture at events like this. They contribute to peer-reviewed publications in the fields of periodontics and implant dentistry. Additionally, they organize a U.S.-based ITI-affiliated study club to benefit our professional colleagues, one of the few such chapters in southern Florida. Expert speakers, including our doctors, are featured at these Zoom or in-person meetings.
