REP Uses Technology to Treat Periodontal Disease in a Minimally Invasive Surgical Approach:
REP provides the benefits of conventional periodontal surgery without the invasive aspect. With REP, the dental specialist places a very small fiber optic camera (a periodontal endoscope or PerioScope) into the periodontal pocket. Using this camera, the periodontist is able to see below the gum line and clean the tooth roots. Doing so allows early diagnosis of root fractures, tooth decay, and the breakdown and erosion of tooth roots. We can also treat these areas with regenerative materials to stimulate bone formation. The doctors at South Florida Center for Periodontics & Implant Dentistry (SFCPID) pioneered the use of REP starting in 2004. We have since treated thousands of patients successfully with REP.
